Santiago, 11th september, 2015. Yesterday, it was held at the Hotel W Conventions Center, the second day of the 3° version of the País Digital Summit 2015: “Internet of things”, the most important technological event in the country, that brings together key national and international players on Internet of Things and Smart Cities, organized by Fundación País Digital, supported by CORFO.
Pelayo Covarrubias, País Digital chairman, mentioned that ‘’as foundation, the digital economy is what moves up, focusing on people, their quality of life and the development of productivity. The internet of things is a revolution to the economy, but how does it change the business model, the human relationships?, we have to look for a real impact on people, an improvement to their quality of life and productivity».
Covarrubias, added that “we have for goal, that in the year 2020 we have the 95% of the people connected; the 100% of the governmental procedures digitalized; take the average of the OECD countries, that have income in technology of the 6%».
According a study carried out by Fundación País Digital, with CORFO´s support, in 2020, each family could save around 400 US Dollars, a year, thanks to the Smart Cities. For this Pelayo Covarrubias made a call to incorporating regions, decentralize projects, create a seeder for ideas and be participants of the digital economy.
Kathia Trusich, Economy Subsecretary , said that ‘’from the ministry we are working for the digital economy, because the country needs a productive and profound transformation and for this we have four work axes: promotion of trust, promotion of a collaborative economy; to facilitate the entrepreneurship and create value for the pymes; and to potentiate the new industries of digital content», also, they have for objective to bring the economic and digital development to all the people across the country.
Eduardo Bitran, CORFO Executive Vice President, stated that ‘’we are facing the Third or Fourth Industrial Revolution, but the relevant question is whether Chile is going to stay looking from the balcony this revolution that will affect the whole economy, because the countries that do not hop on this will have a productive crisis, there’s no choice, you have to hop on».
For Bitran, ‘’We have to have a strategy of intelligent specialization and look for a transforming impact. Developing technological industries and world class knowledge is the challenge», it is needed to generate a virtuous circle between innovation, human capital investment, more productivity and sustainability».
Sebastián Piñera, Chile’s ex President, talked about the challenges Chile has for the Digital Era and valued the efforts Fundación País Digital is doing by putting the subject in the spotlight. «We are in a new world, of accelerated change and big opportunities. In the Digital Revolution Era, we have to be able to adapt to change. The use of technology and innovation will make differences between the countries that subscribe to this revolution. Chile is behind in this matter, not in comparison with Latin America, but with the OECD developed countries.
For the ex President, ‘’The New revolution knocks at at the door, is a change of paradigm and that according various studies will be operative in 2025. With the Internet of the things everything will be connected, we will be able to give information and intelligent solutions». He went on to add that «the internet of the things is a dramatic change in the way we confront life, health, productive processes and is just round the corner. Smart cities are an improvement to the quality of life, cost saving, is something that is advancing in our country and has a huge potential».
Sebastián Piñera stated that ‘’We had never been so close to development, but nothing and noone can assure us this achievement, is on us».
Finalizing, Andrés Gómez-Lobo, Transport and Telecommunications Minister, added that ‘’more than 80% of chileans live in cities, is an urban country, the city is an ecosystem where millions of people interact, there’s traffic congestion and pollution problems, that is detrimental for everyone, for this reason the government intervenes to achieve to have more organized cities and propel the citizens to benefit from it».
The Minister said that currently, they have an agreement with Telefónica and Entel with the objective of getting information of urban mobility. They are also working with Kappo to obtain a pattern of the cyclist’s mobility and with Tom Tom that gathers information for the users.
Finally, Gómez-Lobo announced that the unfolding of the 700 MHZ broadband has started which will allow more speed and quality of data transfer and with which 1281 isolated locations will be reached and stated that in order to increase productivity it is fundamental to potentiate the digital ecosystem.
Also in the event presented Srinivasa Raghavan Venkatachari, Tata Consultancy Service, on Internet of things, Smart Cities and its benefits to the citizens; Bertrand Moussel, Digital Director and Security Authentication Division, Morpho, about security on the internet of things ; while Carlos Juareche, Chief Technology Officer, Indra Chile and Bertrand Moussel did on the business opportunities. Pitch Success Cases in Chile also presented and a transversal study on Enabling Platforms and the IoT Challenge in Mining were drawn.
The 3° País Digital 2015 Summit: “Internet of Things”, aims to be a space that foments and promotes the social and human development, together with productive sophistication in the national economy through the IoT. In addition to contributing to the fortification of public policies in the Internet of Things area, so that they are of utility to the country´s economic sectors.
